The Day a Mother’s Prayer Led Us to Her Meal
August 29, 2026.
It was a busy afternoon in Bangshal, Dhaka. The streets were full of people, shops were busy, and the usual sounds of the city filled the air.
That day, I was at a motor parts shop in Bangshal with a simple purpose.
I was looking for someone who was truly poor, helpless, and unable to provide a meal for herself.
Through Feed A Meal Foundation, with the generous support of Lamisha Sultana, who lives in America, we wanted to provide one person with a warm meal and a small grocery package containing basic food items.
It sounded simple.
But finding the right person was not easy.
We wanted to make sure that our help reached someone who truly needed it.
First, I went to the area around Kasaituli Jame Mosque, also known as Chini Mosque. I looked around and asked about people who might need help.
But I could not find the right person.
Then I went to a pharmacy and waited outside for a while. I had heard that poor and helpless people often come there hoping to receive some assistance.
But again, no one came.
After waiting for some time, I returned to the motor parts shop.
I was beginning to think that perhaps I would not find anyone that day.
Then something caught my attention.
Across the street, in front of another shop, I saw a woman asking people for help.
She was physically disabled and appeared to be struggling to support herself.
The moment I saw her, something inside me said,
“Maybe this is the person I was looking for.”
I walked across the street and approached her.
I asked,
“Aunty, have you eaten lunch?”
She looked at me and quietly replied,
“No, son. I haven't eaten yet.”
I then said,
“Would you like me to take you to a restaurant and buy you some lunch?”
She happily agreed.
As we started walking toward the restaurant, she suddenly told me something that I will never forget.
She said,
“Son, I just finished my prayer. After praying, I asked Allah, ‘Please arrange some food for me today.’ And now Allah has sent you to arrange my meal.”
Her words touched my heart deeply.
At that moment, I felt that perhaps we were not the ones who found her. Maybe Allah had guided us to her.
On our way to the restaurant, we stopped at the shop where we had kept a grocery package prepared for her.
The package contained rice, lentils, onions, potatoes, and cooking oil.
I handed the package to her and told her,
“Aunty, these groceries are also for you. They were sent with the support of Lamisha Sultana from America.”
She became emotional when she heard this.
Then she said,
“Son, I will pray for her from my heart after my prayer.”
Those simple words felt like the greatest gift.
A few moments later, we arrived at the restaurant.
We helped her sit down comfortably and ordered her a meal.
While she was eating, I learned her name.
Her name was Tripuli, and she lived in a nearby alley.
She ate her meal with great satisfaction.
Watching her eat and seeing the happiness on her face brought a deep sense of peace to my heart.
That day, we did not do something that seemed very big.
We simply gave one person a meal.
We also gave her a small package of basic groceries.
But I learned something important that day.
Sometimes, you do not need to do something big to make a difference.
Sometimes, one plate of rice is enough.
Sometimes, a small grocery package is enough.
Sometimes, simply asking someone,
“Have you eaten today?”
can mean more than we realize.
And sometimes, the smile of a hungry person after a meal can be the greatest reward.
That day, we thought we were going out to find someone who needed help.
Instead, we found a mother who had just prayed to Allah for food—and we became part of the answer to her prayer.
For me, that was the most beautiful part of the entire experience.
We did not simply give her food.
We received her prayer in return.
May Allah accept Lamisha Sultana's generous support, bless her, and accept it as an act of Sadaqah.
And may Allah give all of us the ability to stand beside those who are hungry, helpless, and forgotten.
Because sometimes, a small act of kindness can become someone's reason to smile—and someone's reason to pray for you.
